Many children with a healthy imagination are scared of the dark, but this story shows how Pearl takes control and conquers her fear.
By using her imagination, she actually tames the scary dark with biscuits she pretends to bake at bedtimes. She calls them Imaginary Friendship Biscuits, baked with the very best friend ingredients. Placed beneath her bed at night, any shadowy things eating them would become friendly, and so she stopped being scared of the dark!
What she had not anticipated however, was for something greedy to eat so many biscuits that it grew enormous, but it was of course very friendly! It became Pearl’s very own Imaginary Fish Friend and an exciting shared adventure unfurls.
All you little people can also tame the scary dark with imaginary biscuits, as Pearl did, but maybe two, not six, a night!

All four of our children really enjoyed Pearl and the Fish. Our eldest two children (7 & 9) loved the illustrations which really bring the book to life and our youngest two children (4 & 5) love the story of making biscuits for their imaginary friends at bedtime and blowing bubbles with the goldfish! looking forward to the next book in the series :)
Our toddler (2.5 years old) loves this book. He doesn’t yet have an understanding of dreams but he loves the illustrations and listens to the full story and comments on some of the pages himself. His favourite pages are the ones with the “aliens” (Moon Pearls) and the colourful fishes. We feel this is going to be a great little story for him to remember when he does understand dreams more as he grows.
Pearl is so cute and adventurous, there is a sense of pure enjoyment and magic about this lovely tale. There's lots to look at and talk about in the pictures and words too.
A truly wonderful book to share with little ones. The beautiful drawing and colours beckon you into a magical world and the story is equally imaginative and delightful. It’s a gentle starting point to discussion, which is what the best children’s books do. I’m really excited to see how this series progresses and where Pearl travels to next.
My Daughters loved this book. Full of imagination and amazing pictures. Look forward to recommending to people.
